Land owner, minister. A graduate of Liberty Hall, now Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Va., Adam Rankin was licensed to preach in 1782 by the Virginia Presbytery. He came to Lexington, Ky. in 1784 to become pastor of the Presbyterian Church. In the 1790s his views on the psalms came under attack, and after several years of exile, accusations and church trials, he was suspended.
